ESS Certification Training

In order to become a certified Electronic Search Specialist, the individual must have attained the age of 18 years, hold a current Medical Self Declaration, and successfully completed the following Academic and Practical Training Curriculum:

                        Introduction to CASARA, JRCC & the Nat’l SAR System

                        MOUs – CA – SOPs & Policy Manual

                        Alerting Procedures & Visual Searches

                        SARSAT – ELT – EPIRB & PLB

                        Training Standards & Insurance

                        Safety Briefing

                        Basic ELT Theory

                        Emergency Procedures/On scene Actions

                        Conducting Electronic Searches                   

                        Forms            

                        Recommended:

                                    Global Positioning System

                                    Restricted Radio License

                                    First Aid / CPR

                                    Basic wilderness survival

            Practical Training:

                        4 Ground Homings

                        Evaluation Ground Homing
